TYNE & WEAR METRO CASE STUDY
Tyne & Wear Metro rolling stock is of German manufacture and these Hanger Bolts were originally sourced with the OEM in Germany. Our company has successfully reverse engineered this part and the client has experienced excellent service life, at a competitive price.
An upset forging is initially rough machined, then all sizes are finished to drawing and the part fully inspected. The component is released for hard chrome plating and is finally cylindrically ground to the necessary finished sizes.
The hardened steel bushes, having been manufactured and hardened, are then fitted before delivery.
Whilst appearing a relatively easy component, it is in fact far from straightforward due to forging distortion and the length to diameter ratio.
Our mill/turn centres provide the ideal solution for these parts and have enabled us to produce to a very high standard.
